Volkswagen New Beetle (1998 and later) Available as motorized, free-spinning or fixed designs. Motorized versions are powered from the rear window defroster circuit which can be left on continuously and provides a dash mounted switch to control the WindUpKey motion. These replace the "VW" emblem on the rear deck lid. When ordering be sure to indicate the year of your New Beetle and the type of rear emblem you have.
This emblem "swings" to the side to reveal a lock and handle. Only found on the 1998 to 2002 models. The WindUpKey replaces this cover and requires no drilling of holes. The WindUpKey base covers the key lock, but this lock is not used on later models anyway. .
This emblem is the most common on 2002 The WindUpKey replaces this emblem, but requires drilling some holes beneath where the emblem was. If the WindUpKey is later removed the emblem can be replaced and these drilled holes will be covered up. .
This emblem has a small "dimple" in the bottom of the "W" that can be pushed aside to reveal a key hole for the lock. These are only found on some 2002-2004 New Beetle Convertibles. The WindUpKey replaces the complete emblem and the lock opening is no longer accessible. No holes need to be drilled in the deck lid. . Be sure to note whether your New Beetle has a turbo, or is a convertible. The installation instructions and required wire lengths vary. NOTE: The following designs MAY NOT fit New Beetles with spoilers. Some factory spoilers can be handled with a special offset base.
