Volkswagen Bug (1979 and earlier) These mount in place of the license plate light housing on the rear deck lid. Three high-intensity LED lamps are in the base of the shaft to light the license plate. No drilling is required. The motorized versions are powered from the supply circuit to the ignition coil. There are three different mounting bases for the three types of license plate light housings used by VW over these years. When ordering be sure to indicate the year of the Bug you own and the type of rear license plate light housing that you have. The license plate light housings are of three sizes as described below. You cannot determine which one is used just by the year of your Bug since many times the rear deck lid may have been replaced with another year. BE SURE TO CHECK PHOTOS AND MEASURE!
